This book is a special one. A person affected by autism himself gives readers insights into his way of perceiving the world.
As a continuation and complement to her first book, Das fragile Gleichgewicht zwischen Sein und Nichtsein (The fragile balance between being and non-being), the author here repeatedly draws on her own childhood experiences in dealing with her autism. In doing so, she arrives at important theses about the emergence of early childhood survival strategies in autistic young children.
It also makes it understandable from the perspective of people with autism how challenging behavior can arise. By seeing autism not as the “other” and “wrong” but as a special form of relating to the world, an image of inclusion emerges that means more than regulated participation in a so-called normality.
That Taoism could be seen as a possible approach to autistic world experience is another surprise of this engaging book.
