Asia-Pacific Training in Bangkok, Thailand

From March 31 to April 6, 2025, the fourth of seven modules of the Asia-Pacific Training in Curative Education and Social Therapy took place at Tripat Waldorf School in Bangkok, Thailand. Organized by a team from the Curative Education and Social Therapy Network in Thailand around Anchana Soontornpitag, with support from the Camphill Academy (USA) the course includes participants from Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, China and India.

This module was led jointly by Gleice da Silva from the Camphill Academy and Jan Göschel from the Goetheanum’s Section for Inclusive Social Development, and a member of the Camphill Academy. Building on the work done by Becky Rutherford and Andrea Janisch during the first three modules, Jan and Gleice took the group through an exploration of constitutional polarities in Rudolf Steiner’s Course on Education for Special Needs and introduced the concept of ‘Social Masks’ from Karl König’s foundational lectures on inclusive community-building in the Camphill Movement. Their lessons were complemented by eurythmy with Herman Wessels and Painting with art therapist Rasanakorn Amornpong.

The workshop concluded on Sunday, April 6, with an open celebration of the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Steiner’s Course on Education for Special Needs. The celebration included presentations by various initiatives and organizations, as well as a panel conversation with some of the initiators of this work in Thailand.

After the workshop, Jan visited the “Friends Community”, a Camphill-inspired community for young adults with assistance needs in Muak Lek, about two hours’ drive north-east of Bangkok.
