Harom Galamb – a young community in the Hungarian region of Romania
Visit from Sonja Zausch in June 2025
Six years ago, Zsuzsa Filipov-Soó returned home from Scotland with her family. It was always clear to her that her apprenticeship years in Camphill Scotland should serve to establish this impulse of community life in rural areas with people with assistance needs in Romania.
Many people remember the time after the fall of communism in 1989 when the conditions for Romanian children in orphanages were shown in the Western press – appalling conditions. And there are still major challenges in this country, which is now a member of the EU, with many ethnic groups living together, funding and economic and political instabilities.
Harom Galamb has taken a big step forward! The community, currently a day care center with 12 people with assistance needs, four employees and a volunteer from Spain, has received its state license and is inspected monthly by the supervisory authority – the initiative is greatly appreciated! The work takes place temporarily in the so-called “Cantor’s House” in the village, which has been made available by the protestant church community.
Zsuzsa has managed to build up a large network of social initiatives around the day care center, as well as with the mayor, the local elementary school and the people in the village – every walk with the group through the village after lunch is a happy event with lots of small inclusive encounters!
With the support of a network in Scotland and other foundations in Germany, a very old little blue house on the actual site has been renovated and a new building will be brought to life with 30 clients from next summer. It will be a celebration in a village with 300 residents!
During Sonja’s visit, a workshop on the Twelve Senses according to Rudolf Steiner was held in the community hall, which was attended by 35 colleagues from the surrounding area – including the woman from the supervisory authority (!) and other administrative staff from the community – people are curious and show great appreciation for Harom Galamb’s work, which is valuable in terms of humanity, craftsmanship and aesthetics!
There were also some eurythmy sessions with Sonja and all the people at the day care center in the local sports hall.
Sonja was able to offer a workshop with eurythmy and the 12 senses for teachers and parents from the nearby Waldorf School (with 8 classes in Odorhellen).
There was a great sense of gratitude among the people present that they were able to experience practical and everyday methods from Waldorf education combined with curative education.
We look forward to the future of this organization with its wonderful employees and wish them all the best!
