Georgia: Urgent appeal for donations for supportive education institutions

Georgia still lacks adequate infrastructure for people with disabilities. State aid for those affected and for the facilities is generally insufficient, meaning that the supportive education and social therapy facilities rely on donations for survival. The current tense situation in the country further exacerbates the situation. After presumably manipulated elections and the accompanying drastic changes in legislation, and with the new government moving away from EU accession and towards a rapprochement with Russia, protests are taking place daily, some of which are being violently suppressed. However, the government’s new course is also having a direct impact on the supportive educational institutions in Georgia: The government is refusing to use EU funds and the USA has already stopped its financial support for Georgia due to current developments. “We do not know how and with what means the state will continue to finance social services,” worries Lali K. from the Qedeli social therapy center. The Michael School for Supportive education in Tbilisi is in the same situation. All information on the website of the Freunde der Erziehungskunst
